Voice of Humanity

Voice of Humanity creates systems of collaboration, governance and currency design, and reconstruction of human economic systems with the goal of creating a world in which humans live in harmony with one another and with the natural systems of planet earth.

Sufficiency Currency

The Sufficiency Currency project proposes a new type of economy, where everyone’s basic needs are met through pools rather than marketplaces. Our trial projects will take place in cooperatives, intentional communities and urban commons.

Working with ecovillages, urban commons and regenerative communities for a shared sustainable economy.

The Family Regeneration Project

Bringing US-based families for a 1-year learning and living experience in ecovillages in Europe.

Weekly Calls

Join our weekly calls to follow the journey of creating the Sufficiency Currency and Family Regeneration Project.

Workshop: The Future Ain't What It Used to Be

The economy isn’t going back to normal. How can you think differently about your future and the future of your community? In this workshop we explore money, alternatives to money, and new forms of democracy.

Consulting: Regenerative Currency and Community

We work with communities, regenerative projects, urban commons and non-profits to design currencies that align with their values. Consultations are on a pay-what-you-want basis.

Interviews and Speaking

We love to share what we’re doing. Reach out for an interview on your podcast or video channel, media interview or speaker for your event.

Whitepaper

The Voice of Humanity Whitepaper outlines a cohesive system of governance and decision making. We update the whitepaper periodically.

The following video discusses the state of DAO technology in 2019 and gives an overview of how the VoH approaches the modules of governance.

OUR BASIC VALUEs

Voice of Humanity strives to create a world in which:

  • Everyone’s basic needs are met.
  • Everyone has a voice in the matters that impact their lives.

We don’t accept arguments that common decency is an ideology. It’s common decency to want every child to have food, shelter, education and healthcare. It’s common sense to believe that adults should have influence in the matters that impact their lives.

Is it idealistic? Yes. Is it an ideology? No.

Being human includes being humane. That’s what Voice of Humanity is about.

Testimonials

Grace has brought together a set of topics critical for our time, inquiry into what money is, considering how money systems can support life systems and what the relationship could be between money and deeper community.

Identity Woman

The ‘Sufficiency Currency’ is a bold new idea being championed by a true visionary, Grace Rachmany. Grace has put in the time and toil it takes to understand intentional communities and ecovillages in detail, and her proposal benefits from the wisdom of her long experience.

From my experience participating in workshops and projects together, Grace knows the fields of governance, sufficiency, and currency better than just about anyone out there. She also is a fantastic facilitator with the talent to get you to think deeply and thoroughly about critical and important topics affecting the planet.”

VoH History

Originally envisioned as a system of collaborative democracy, Voice of Humanity emerged following the Arab Spring when Grace thought: It’s great to overthrow your dictatorship, but now what? We can’t very well recommend democracy in its current form. She called up Nathan. He said “I’ve been waiting for this call.”
How is it that we’ve developed advanced technology in every area of human endeavor except democracy? Voice of Humanity is a vehicle for creating and experimenting with new forms of democracy.

Together Nathan and Grace have worked create and evolve the foundational thoughts and plans for creating the Voice of Humanity platform. About two years after starting, they began to think about whether the blockchain might have the potential to help them implement some of the ideas they had put on paper. But, at the time, the technology was nascent so they put the project aside.

In 2018, when The DAO was invented and cryptocurrency projects began exploring governance, Nathan and Grace took the VoH ideas out of the drawer, brushed them off and began updating them. Since that time, Grace has been involved in more than 100 different cryptocurrency projects: writing whitepapers, consulting on tokenomics, trying DAO technology and researching what works and what doesn’t work.

The full Voice of Humanity Whitepaper has been rewritten several times over the last decade, and can be found here. The Github Repository includes a number of thought experiments and potential projects for implementation on experimental scale.

As we evolved our thinking, different people have participated in the VoH thought experiment. In 2019 we participated in the Genesis DAO and dGov Council. In 2020 we hosted a weekly dGov call to explore all topics around decentralized governance. Most recently, we ran 5 cohorts of a currency design course called “The Future Ain’t What it Used to Be”, exploring how the monetary and legal systems create limitations on how we can re-imagine democracy, and exploring new concepts of economy, democracy and shared ownership that have potential for transforming society.

All of these side projects have led us to where we are today. Grace Rachmany is one of the leaders in the areas of tokenomics, blockchain governance and distributed technology. We continue to participate in a wide variety of experiments, develop our thinking and move forward proactively to promote the vision of a world in which everyone has a say in the decisions that affect their lives.

Our focus in 2020 and 2021 is in looking at the flows and protocols that form people’s interactions and behaviors. The VoH whitepaper covers our thinking about the building blocks of decision-making. Yet, as we’ve developed our thinking, we recognize that human behavior occurs within the confines of our cultural and structural protocols. That is, it is the mortar rather than the bricks that determines the behaviors of people within a society. We are experimenting with currency design and new forms of communication protocols with the intention of evolving beyond market-based behaviors towards collaborative actions that recognize the value of all actors in a society, not just those who create financial output.
